Tens of thousand young volunteers in Hefei city participated in various activities on March 5, the Service Day of Chinese Young Volunteers. With the theme of participating in voluntary service and constructing a harmonious society, a series of activities have been launched in different districts of the city, including live performances, compulsory service and consultation and services aimed at widowed senior people and poverty-stricken households. It is learnt that Hefei has started recruiting volunteers since 1994, and there are a total of over 80,000 registered members in the city at present. (Liu Hengyi)
