Jianghuai Grand Theater, one of Hefei’s cultural landmarks, is undergoing remodeling and expected to reopen next January. The theater, initially built in 1954, was the only comprehensive theater in Hefei.

　　China’s late leader Mao Zedong was in the theater to watch Chinese operas, and Mei Lanfang, master of Beijing opera, once performed there in the 1950s.
